The Kingston K-14 School District is searching for a subsitute School Nurse. The applicant must be a licensed nurse, RN or LPN. All work must be performed in accordance with accepted professional nursing standards. TITLE: Substitute School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Missouri license to practice as a registered nurse for the current year.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Under the Supervision of the District Head Nurse in the absence of the Building Nurse.
JOB GOAL: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies health problems through physical and developmental assessments & screening. Issues referrals and rescreening as indicated. Participates in the Special Education Program Assessment Process. Assists in the development and implementation of IEP's.
- Promotes prevention, wellness, and limit of disability (for students and staff) through early detection and referral for treatment of health problems. Follow-up with referrals in a timely manner as indicated.
- Recommends modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students.
- Routinely monitors board policies regarding school health program and their effectiveness.
- Develops a simple, practical and appropriate plan for first aid and emergency care for students and staff. Maintains and updates school health manuals, policies, and procedures for both school health offices.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment. Actively participates in disaster drills.
- Inventories first aid kits for all school offices. Maintains a list of CPR certified personnel.
- Reports to parents, school staff, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student/school health/medical matters.
- Prepares a quarterly newsletter regarding health issues and concerns.
- Updates parents via written correspondence about specific health concerns and communicable diseases in the classroom.
- Assists in evaluating the comprehensive health education program and continually monitors it to keep it upgraded with current health issues and practices.
- Develops a yearly calendar of events for students, parents, and staff regarding programs and services offered by health program.
- Responsible for the early identification and exclusion of students and staff with a communicable disease to prevent the further outbreak and spreading of the disease, by enforcing school board policies and local and state statutes regarding these diseases.
- Reports the number of communicable diseases to the Health Department on a weekly basis.
- Reports suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to The Division of Family Services Hot Line as regulated by Missouri statutes and reports any cases of suspected abuse to the Superintendent and Building Principals.
- Maintains current and cumulative health records on all students. Updates records in a timely, consistent and efficient manner.
- Maintains confidentiality of all health records. Maintains clinic log, medication administration logs, and orders. Develops IHP's as necessary.
- Maintains current information regarding available community resources.
- Maintains emergency medical information on staff members as well as students. Maintains emergency action plans for all students and staff who have special health needs such as asthma, diabetes, history of severe anaphylaxis, etc.
- Provides in-service programs to staff as needed on health-related issues.
- Offers classroom instruction as needed in Health related topics/issues.
- Sits on committees and attends conferences regarding health services, health curriculum &/or other professional development.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
- Maintains immunization records for the school district, reports non-compliance and assists parents with immunization process by utilizing available resources.
- Attends home visits for school children or as requested by the school district.
- Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed.
- Reports inventory of health room the beginning and end of every school year.
- Assists with kindergarten and preschool screenings.
- Monitors medication administration throughout the school district supplies appropriate forms and regulations regarding narcotic/controlled substance administration to students.
- Ensures health room staff follows board policies.
- Maintains standing medication and first aide orders.
- Maintain and updates the consulting physician agreement yearly.
- Participates in a yearly health program survey and evaluation. Develops and implements goals and objectives for the school year.
- Supervises and assists all school health personnel to ensure board policies and state regulation are being followed.
EVALUATION:
Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with District policy on evaluation of support staff.
SALARY: Pay and work year to be in accordance with current pay plan and District policy.
