The Kingston K-14 School District is currently accepting certified applications for the High School Girls Basketball Coach position for the 2026-2027 school year.
Reports to: Athletic Director/Building Principal
Position Summary: The High School Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing the girls basketball program. The coach with foster a positive, competitive, and educational environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and academic achievement while building strong relationships within the school and community.
Program Leadership & Development:
- Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the girls' basketball program.
- Develop structured practice plans focused on fundamentals, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Establish program goals aligned with the school's mission and community values.
- Promote a culture of accountability, respect, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Support and help develop youth and feeder programs to strengthen long-term program success.
Game & Practice Management:
- Prepare the team for competition through effective practice and scouting.
- Develop game strategies and make appropriate in-game adjustments.
- Supervise student-athletes at all practices, games, and team events.
- Coordinate equipment and uniforms with athletic director.
Student-Athlete Development:
- Promote academic success and monitor eligibility requirements.
- Model and teach leadership, character, and positive citizenship.
- Encourage multi-sport participation when appropriate.
- Mentor student-athletes in goal setting and post-secondary planning.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with district, league, and state athletic association rules.
- Maintain required certifications (CPR, First Aid, concussion training, etc.).
- Prioritize student-athletes' safety and proper use of equipment.
- Communicate injuries and concerns appropriately with parents and administration.
Community & Communication:
- Maintain open and professional communication with players, parents, and staff.
- Conduct preseason parent and athlete meetings.
- Promote the basketball program within the school and the community.
- Represent the school positively at all functions.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate rosters, statistics, and inventory records.
- Assist with budgeting and fundraising efforts as needed.
- Participate in coaches' meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Previous coaching experience preferred (high school or youth level).
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and player development.
- Demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships in a small school community setting.
- Must meet all district and state certification requirements.
Work Schedule:
Position requires after-school practices, evening games, and occasional weekend/holiday tournaments. Off-season involvement may include open gyms, summer camps, and program planning.
